January 21, 2006

January 6, 2006 the sun went down at the Daniel Farm.

Sunset.farm

It was the last Sunset for our Precious Mother, “Granny” Iva.

She left this life having fulfilled her God-given mission of being

The most precious Mother in the world to her five children,

The most loving Grandmother in the world to her five Grandchildren

And she also loved her eleven Great Grandchildren, and

Her two Great-Great Grandchildren.

There was no end to her love.  She loved everyone and everyone who

Knew her loved her.

The next day the Sunrise marked the dawning of a new day for Granny Iva.

It is a day with no end.

She began her new life eternally dwelling in the Presence of her Savior her

Sovereign Lord who died on the cross shedding His blood as the Supreme

Sacrifice for mankind’s sin.  She accepted Christ’s offer of Salvation.

She rejoiced in the hope of her salvation, eternal life.  She loved God with

All her heart He was her best Friend.

Her Journey through this life was a straight and narrow way.

She never turned to the right nor to the left but always focused on her goal.

When the way was rough and rugged she did not complain for she knew

There would be perfect peace at the end of this life’s journey.

Her life’s journey ended January 6, 2006 and she was laid to rest near her home

January 10, 2006.

Sorrow No More

The Sorrows of this Earth are healed in Heaven.

Here the Fond Memories of Mother will not be forgotten.

When the final Sunset comes for us

And the Sunrise marks the dawning of our Eternal Day

We will meet her there.  On that Morning we’ll sorrow no more.

Now we may sorrow for not having been able to express to her

Our love as we would like to have done.

But we must know that whatever sorrows we may imagine we caused

They matter not to her now--not even one.

She waits for us there.  She wants us to sorrow no more.

All tears have been wiped from her eyes she understands we did our best;

Heaven has healed her sorrow.

Our lives must go on without her today so we press on

Looking forward to that blessed tomorrow,

When we shall meet her in Heaven then we’ll sorrow no more.

Granny Iva had a good day today.  She not only knew her name was Iva but even added the Marie to it.  She has been fairly calm and alert today.

August 23, 2005

Seventy-six [76] years ago Iva looked like this:

Aug

This picture was taken on Sunday after her marriage on Friday, Aug 23, 1929

Today would have been their 76th anniversary.

I took the following picture of her yesterday, Aug 22, 2005:

Yesterday as she sat down to the breakfast table she said, “I’m just about gone.”

She hasn’t been feeling well for a few days.  It is so hard on her to not be able to think and to know where she is and who she is and who we are.  Yesterday was the first time she has said she didn’t know who she is always before she knew she was Iva.

She has been very restless today.  She ate well yesterday and today though.  She has biscuits and gravy, chicken tender, fresh peaches, and slice of tomato and milk.  She is able to take her

Medicine and drink her liquid vitamins.

She complains about being weak and I can tell that she doesn’t have the strength she did have a few weeks ago.

She is just as precious as ever!

Today we began Tamoxifen 10 mg. to treat Breast Cancer

Mother had mammogram done January 11, 2005 and follow

up mammogram and Ultrasound January 21; a spot was

detected and believed to be cancer.  We discussed it with her

PCP, Dr. Keith Ellis, and decided to try the medication and

not to put her through the trauma of a biopsy.

All her children were agreeable to this treatment.

She often says, “Look at my hands!” I show her mine and tell

Her that when I am 95 my hands will look just like hers.

image004.jpg

These are hands that tell the story of hard work, loving service, wiping away tears,

and much more. The index finger of the left hand is disfigured due to having a “fellin’”

[a bad infection caused from bruising] caused by stripping sorghum cane when she

was a young girl.  Her finger had to be lanced.

She loves bananas they are easy to chew.

This tree is one she sees while sitting at the kitchen table.
She often comments on the big trees out there while she
eats her meals.

Mother’s Day at Granny Daniel’s

Sunday, May 8, 2005 Mothers’ Day was a wonderful day here. We missed those of you who were unable to be here and we enjoyed those of you who were able to be here.  We had the usual food and everyone said they had a wonderful day.

Iva [Mother] had a good day today.  She requires lots of attention as most days she wants me or Maxine to be in her sight at all times.  Some days she will sit and watch TV [or dose in front of it]; other days she becomes frusterated when she is "not able to get it all straight" in her thinking it is these days she continually recites most her favorite phrase, "My oh mercy me."  Lately she has been choosing to lie down on her bed rather than sit in her chair and she is happy when I rest with her but if I try to do housework out of her sight she is up and down like a yo-yo.

August 5, 2005

Granny Iva  slept late this morning; it was nearly 3 AM when she went to sleep it was one of those nights.  I fed her a cinnamon roll a fresh peach and milk at 2:30 AM this morning.

The following pictures are of the trees she comments on almost every time she sits at the kitchen table.  Yesterday, Aug 4, 2005, we had high winds that took down the main big tree.  A large limb was blown from another big tree.  I got up before the others yesterday morning and felt an urge to take pictures in summer season of the trees she sees out the window; this morning I took pictures of them after the storm.  Here are the before and after pictures.

Tulip Tree in front of our house after the wind storm [Aug 4, 2005].  The limb on the ledge would have hit my car if I had not put it in the garage a few minutes before the storm; I am so thankful for protection.

August 7, 2005

This morning Granny Iva sat down at the kitchen table and commented on the big tree she could see!  It seems she was always seeing the one closer to the window rather than the other big ones.  The storm didn't damage her tree after all so here is the picture of the one she still comments about:
